Inspired by hiking boots, designer Bruce Kilgore originally created Air Forces as a more supportive shoe for players on the court. They took the lowered back heel from Nike’s Approach hiking shoes to take away some pressure from the Achilles tendons.

Up top, the AF1 has smooth synthetic leather with perforations on the toe box to keep things cool. A low-cut, padded collar offers extra support, while the Air Sole unit delivers an unreal level of cushioning with each step.

Underfoot, they’ve got pivot circles on the rubber outsole that were originally designed to keep players gripped on the court. To wrap things up, all Nike’s Air Forces are signed off with the iconic tick (Swoosh logo) at the sides.
