When Was Nike Founded?

1972, Beaverton, Oregon, USA. Nike was born after previously being known as 'Blue Ribbon', a third-party supplier credited with introducing Onitsuka Tigers (ASICS) to the American market. Following a dispute with the Japanese brand, Blue Ribbon began its own manufacturing, changed its name to 'Nike', and began pushing their own designs. At the heart of the Nike project was the pairing of Phil Knight & Bill Bowerman. Knight, a former student of Bowerman, led the business side of the operation, and Bowerman, a legendary Olympic running coach, drove the technical innovations of the products. Bowerman displayed an obsessive approach to innovation, experimenting with his wife's waffle iron in a bid to find a grippier, more lightweight shoe for his athletes. Over the years, the pair were responsible been responsible for bringing forward a collection of technological innovations, changing the trajectory of the athletics industry, and building one of the most instantly recognisable brands of all time.
